Enabling Multi-factor Authentication

Enabling Multi-factor Authentication

Students at Eastern Gateway Community College can enable additional security on their student account by configuring MFA (Multi-factor Authentication).  Enabling this will prompt the student to approve a login from a trusted device like a mobile phone using SMS text messaging or the Microsoft Authenticator app.

To enable MFA on your student account, begin by accessing the Microsoft account security settings by logging in with your EGCC student email account here.

Step 1: After signing in, click on 'Enable two-step verification' next to your phone number.  Ensure that this is a mobile phone number that you have access to.

Step 2: Verify/Update the phone number (if necessary) and then select 'Text me a code'.  If you do not have a mobile phone that can receive SMS text messages, you can enter a land-line number and select 'Call me' to receive a phone call with the code read to you via recorded message.

Step 3: You will receive a code that must be entered in the next step.  Enter the code and click 'Next'.

Step 4: Once the code is entered, you will have successfully enabled MFA and will use that phone number to verify your identity at the next login.
