If you're having trouble uploading a video to Canvas Studio - e.g., Canvas won't recognize your webcam, the video seems to hang when uploading, etc. - an alternate route is to upload it to YouTube first. To do this, first make sure that you have your video recorded onto your device - whether saved to your computer, or transferred over from a mobile device.
Every student has a YouTube account tied to their student account, so no need to use your personal YouTube account, nor to create a new one.
Firstly, go to
www.youtube.com. In the top right of the page is your Account button. It will either be a circle with your initials, a circle with your profile picture if you have one set, or a SIGN IN button.
Click on that, and click on Switch Account. Click 'Add Account,' and enter your EGCC student email and password, the same information you use to sign in to the Student Portal.
From there, click on Create, and Upload Video, at the top right of your screen.
If you receive the following message, you can either view their New Studio guide, or just hit Escape on your keyboard to close it.
You will be met with this panel (if you don't see this panel, click on Create on the top right, and Upload Videos):
Either click SELECT FILES and select the video you'd like to upload, or click and drag your video from its folder into this box. It will then open the video information box. At the bottom of the screen will be the upload progress for the video. Here, you can change the name of the video, add a description, etc. (but none of this is important for uploading it to Canvas, so you can skip this step if you'd like).
Scroll down and select, 'No, it's not made for kids,' and hit NEXT. (The age selection option doesn't mean that you're marking it as Mature, but only that it is not programming specifically created for kids)
On the Video Elements page, click NEXT.
In the Visibility window, select either Public (your video will be visible in search on YouTube), or Unlisted (only those with the link can view the video) - the choice is yours. Click Save.
You will now be taken to your list of uploaded videos. Click on the thumbnail of the video that you've uploaded to pull up its information screen.
Click on the icon that looks like two piece of paper underneath the video's picture to copy the URL of the video.
Now, navigate to Canvas Studio. You can find it by clicking on the Studio icon on the left side of Canvas, in the blue bar.
From inside Canvas Studio, click Add on the top right, and paste the copied YouTube video URL into the box on the right. Click Add.
Your video will now appear in Canvas Studio.
