Updating Java

This information provides instructions for updating Java to the most recent version.

MAC OS 

Apple provides its own version of Java.  You can download or update Java using the Software Update feature.

Step 1.  Launch the Java Control Panel by clicking the Java icon under System Preferences.

 

Step 2.  Go to the Update tab in Java Control Panel and click on Update Now button that brings up Installer window.

Step 3.  Click on Install Update.

Step 4.  Click on Install and Relaunch.

Save all your work before clicking Install and Relaunch.

Step 5. Once the installation is completed the Java application will be relaunched

​Step 6. If the Java application does not relaunch, manually relaunch so you can take advantage of the latest Java.

Windows

To manually update Java follow the procedures below:

Step 1. Open the Java Control Panel.

  1. Open the Windows Control Panel by clicking Start > Control Panel.
  2. Click on the Java icon. It will look like a coffee cup.

Step 2. Click on the Update tab.  (It will not be visible or will be grayed out if you do not have administrator privileges.)

Step 3. Click on Update Now.
