How to Upload and Post to Canvas Studio Using YouTube - Mobile

If you're having trouble uploading a video to Canvas Studio - e.g., Canvas won't recognize your webcam, the video seems to hang when uploading, etc. - an alternate route is to upload it to YouTube first.  On a mobile device, you can either record it ahead of time with your camera, or record it and directly upload it to YouTube.

Every student has a YouTube account tied to their student account, so no need to use your personal YouTube account, nor to create a new one.

First, open up your YouTube app on your mobile device.  On the top right of your screen, tap the account icon, which will be either a circle with your first initial, or your profile picture.

Tap the arrow next to your name to open the account selector

From there, select your EGCC student account.  If it's not visible, click on the plus sign at the top right and log in with your student email address and password, just like you would the student portal.

Once logged in, select the camera icon on the top right.

From here, you can either record your video, or you can select a pre-recorded video to upload.

Here, you can add a title and description to the video, but it's not important for transferring to Canvas, so it's up to you.  If you don't name the video, YouTube will just name it whatever the current date is.  If it's not already, set the Privacy to 'Unlisted,' which means only those with the link can view your video, and it won't appear in search.  Tap Upload when finished.

You will be taken to a view of your uploaded videos, and YouTube will overlay the upload / processing progress over your new video.  Once it is done with processing, you will be able to open it.

Once that's finished, you can now view your video by tapping on it.  From here, you can also copy the URL so that we can transfer it over to Canvas.  Tap the Share button.

Tap the Copy Link button.

Now head over to Canvas - whether you use the Canvas Student app on your device, or use the website, they're functionally similar.
Once logged in, tap on the options icon on the top left, and select Studio.

In Studio, tap Add on the top right, and paste the copied URL for your video into the box underneath YouTube

Click Add and your video should appear on Canvas Studio.
